Sean Payton Updates on Riley Moss, the Broncos’ Injured CB
When starting cornerback Riley Moss left the game in the second quarter of Sunday’s road game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Denver Broncos’ entire fan base held their breath. When a man in the pile collided with Moss on a tackle during a play, Moss hurt his knee. Moss didn’t go back to work. He is the team’s second-leading tackler, so losing him for an extended period of time could be devastating given how much of a sparkplug he is. After the Broncos defeated the Raiders 29–19, head coach Sean Payton thankfully allayed such worries at the podium.
“Luckily, Riley and I didn’t have a significant relationship. “It’s an MCL,” stated Payton. “I will not provide anything. Next week, we’ll see how things go. Some others believed he could return. We’ll observe its current state.
Even after a game, Payton is infamously reticent to divulge any injury information. However, it is heartening to see him putting a stop to the mounting fear at the prospect of losing Moss.
Without Moss, the Broncos defence wasn’t nearly the same. His physical force is irreplaceable, and there were coverage lapses in the second half. In terms of tackles, how frequently does a cornerback push for the team lead? You can infer a lot from that. He finished with four solo tackles, which is the fifth-most on the squad, despite missing half of the game. Moss was replaced in the second quarter by Levi Wallace, who is good in coverage but lacks the same tenacity in run support. Although Brock Bowers, a tight end for the Raiders, only managed four receptions for 38 yards on 10 attempts, the Broncos were able to shut him down.
