DALLAS— The first game between the acrimonious Cotton Bowl rivals as SEC opponents ended with Texas football defeating the Oklahoma Sooners. Before Texas scored three touchdowns in the second quarter, Oklahoma’s strong defense held up well against a strong Longhorn attack early in the game. Texas easily won, dominating the second half and securing a meeting with Georgia in the SEC the following week.
Quinn Ewers, the quarterback for the Longhorns, completed 20 of 29 passes for 199 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Michael Hawkins Jr., the Sooners’ true freshman quarterback, was sacked five times while completing 15 of 23 passes for 116 yards.
